Ormiston Cliff Park Infant Academy follows the National Curriculum to teach Mathematics.
At Ormiston Cliff Park Junior Academy we believe that a high quality mathematics education is essential and ensure that links are made to meaningful, real-life contexts.
Our approach to maths is based on the CPA model.
Three key elements of our maths curriculum are:
Our daily maths lessons focus heavily upon the development of pupils’ understanding of number. Pupils take part in additional maths skills lessons where they have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the other key areas of maths such as shape, measures, data and time. Often these sessions are linked to their wider topic curriculum work.
Our policy ensures that, as children become more confident and secure in their understanding of calculations, they are able to access an increasingly varied range of formal recording methods. This allows children to be able to select increasingly efficient methods as their understanding grows.
Our children have access to the Times Tables Rockstars programme. In either paper form or online, Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so. This format has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for hundreds of thousands of pupils over the last 8 years in over 14,000 schools – both primary and secondary – worldwide.
With schools closed again, the BBC are once more asking you to help those pupils still in need. Their ‘Give A Laptop’ scheme is running again, and they are working to join the dots between your devices and the children who may need them the most.
